When it comes to remodeling your bathroom, many homeowners tend to focus on the larger elements like the vanity, flooring, tub, and sink. Smaller details shouldn’t be overlooked – and one of the most significant (yet, seemingly minor) fixtures to consider is none other than your shower head.

Contrary to what some may think, there’s a wide variety of shower heads out there, and the one you select will largely depend on the look and feel you’re aiming to achieve. Showering can be a quick and mindless act in a routine, or can be a much-needed relaxing activity. Regardless of your experience, the many different types of shower heads available can help cater to your needs, while also creating a complementary look to your bathroom space.

    Shower Head Size Ranges

Shower heads come in sizes as small as 2 ¾  inches and as large as 15 inches. Small shower heads are ideal if you have a smaller shower space, whereas larger ones can make a big impression in spacious showers or baths. Smaller shower heads tend to provide a stronger flow compared to the larger styles of shower heads. It’s typically a best practice to choose a shower head that coincides with the size of your shower stall, as well as matching your shower preferences. Some larger showers may even accommodate multiple shower heads to create a luxurious, spa-like space.

    Mounting Options

When it comes to mounting your shower head, there are several options to choose from. Wall-mounted shower heads tend to provide users with more functionality, while ceiling-mounted shower heads can provide a larger surface area to give off a smoother rainfall that can provide full body coverage. While those are some of the more popular shower head styles, some other showerheads can be designed to be recessed and built into the wall. One popular option offered by Luxury Bath for Less is the Waterworks Universal Recessed Ceiling Mounted shower head. Measuring 9 ¾ in size, this beautiful shower head is installed from above and recessed into the ceiling, making for a sleek, uniform appearance.

    Water Intensity

Some enjoy a higher water pressure while others prefer a more gentle, soothing spray. Whatever your preference, there’s a shower head that can produce the perfect level of water intensity. Some shower heads come with an adjustable flow rate, allowing you to bathe with both standard water delivery and more intense sprays. Hand showers also allow you to target hard-to-clean areas and are ideal for those who may have mobility issues.

A versatile shower head option is the Waterworks Universal 3 ½ Adjustable “Speakman” Style shower head, which offers a multi-spray option ranging in intensity from gentle to aggressive. The Speakman style is also available as a shower arm and flange.

Another option is the 5-inch Waterworks Universal Shower Head with Adjustable Spray. This model offers rubber nozzles that can adjust the water flow from gentle to aggressive. Being that it’s a larger head, it also emits a higher volume of water.

    Standard, Rain, and Recessed

Shower heads can also be selected based on their water delivery design. Both rainfall shower heads and waterfall shower heads offer a soft intensity that mimics that of rain – a feeling that tends to be soothing for many people. One of the most popular models we carry is the Waterworks Universal 6-inch Rain Shower Head, available in nickel.

As we noted earlier, recessed shower heads are installed into the wall to help promote a clean, more polished look in the bathroom. While standard shower heads tend to be simplistic and basic in design, they offer a classic and timeless look.
